Position Summary:Provides scheduling for all programming of camp. Maintains knowledge of which campers are at which activities in case staff or parents need to locate campers promptly. This position is also responsible for organizing staff and campers into "club" activities for the week. Maintains organization and clear communication between summer camp director, lead staff and the rest of staff so that programming and transitions are high quality. Responsible for ensuring that staff follow the schedule to maintain necessary allotted times for activities to allow campers to get the most out of the programs provided at camp Cullen. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes camper safety and engagement. Provides a quality experience to children and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring, and faith.Essential Functions:Schedules activities and cabins in a manner that allows for seamless transitions and high-quality programming.Supervises staff to ensure that the schedule provided is being observed and followed.Organizes staff and campers into their "club" activities every week.Makes an effort to put campers in their desired activities.Ensures club activities are being led according to their matching curriculum to ensure that clubs are providing high quality programming, developing campers' skills and allowing for a fun environment.Plans camp or village evening programs.Coordinates and works with other lead staff and staff to ensure quality of programming.Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values.Participates in the closing down procedures of camp.Assist in delivery of a safe, fun and effective summer camp program.Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures.Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for land activities.Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.Takes immediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up with summer camp director to determine long term solutions/actions, provides timely and accurate reports and follow-ups.Participates enthusiastically with other program staff to prepare camp for summer camper arrivals, departures, and special events.Participates enthusiastically in program staff and all staff meetings and trainings.Maintains positive relations with guests and other staff. Conveys information on programs and schedules to campers.Attends camp marketing events and other special events as directed and other duties allow.Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.All other duties assigned.Qualifications:Prefer 2 years of resident camp experience.Prefer 1 year of experience in a supervisory role.CPR, First aid and O2 certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire date.Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations.Other Requirements:The activity coordinator is required to live on-site during the summer season.The YMCA of Greater Houston provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
