Purpose:

The Food & Beverage Director has overall responsibility for the daily operations of the culinary services department. This position performs all duties professionally, in compliance with Community policies & procedures, ensuring residents receive high-quality culinary experiences. The Director prepares and services meals safely and appetizingly, adhering to dietary standards and community policies. They may also create, price, and execute menus for community and private events.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage financial and operational functions related to dining and culinary services.
  • Create weekly menus for IL Communities and follow dietitian-approved menus for AL and MC communities.
  • Ensure compliance with sanitation regulations and maintain cleanliness of work areas.
  • Conduct safety and sanitation inspections and communicate action items to relevant staff.
  • Maintain high standards for food quality, presentation, and dining environment.
  • Develop and uphold food service quality objectives and standards.
  • Foster good relationships with community staff and network with other communities.
  • Prepare monthly food service reports and manage food and supply budgets.
  • Order food and supplies, maintain inventories, and oversee food safety standards.
  • Develop, organize, implement, evaluate, and direct food and beverage operations.
  • Report on department operations and maintain temperature logs.
  • Ensure the kitchen is clean, safe, and meets sanitation standards.
  • Support community sales with catering and event services, ensuring proper communication.
  • Follow emergency procedures and safety policies.
  • Maintain a 72-hour emergency food and water supply per regulations.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm and patience when working with seniors, demonstrating team orientation and confidentiality.
  • Manage staffing, recruitment, training, and evaluation of culinary staff.
  • Oversee culinary calendar for holidays and special events.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Culinary Arts preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in food production/management.
  • Serve Safe certification required within 90 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of food preparation, service etiquette, and health regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet search tools.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and a team player.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and work in hot/humid environments.
  • Ability to assess food quality through taste and smell.
