The Executive Protection Officer is a certified peace officer assigned to the Executive Protection Unit (EPU). The primary responsibility is to provide close personal protection for protectees, including safe and secure transportation (vehicle or otherwise) for travel inside and outside the United States. The officer reports to the Executive Protection Supervisor or other management and may work from an office or field location depending on the assignment. Maintaining certification status and completing all required continuing education and qualifications is necessary. The officer will also perform basic police services, including law enforcement and protection of citizens' rights and property.

Distinguishing Characteristics

This role is within the Non-Travis County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) Peace Officer Pay Scale and the Public Safety-Emergency Management family. Duties include operating a motorized vehicle, radio equipment, administering CPR and first aid, maintaining physical endurance and agility, acting decisively in emergencies, and working various shifts, including extended hours during emergency operations. It requires initiative and independent judgment to handle dynamic situations.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate all processes related to escorting assigned protectees in public settings, ensuring they are not abandoned or left until properly relieved.
  2. Provide close personal protection, including transportation inside and outside the U.S.
  3. Analyze surrounding areas, identify suspicious behavior or unauthorized individuals, and take necessary precautions.
  4. Conduct risk and threat analysis for travel, public appearances, and daily operations.
  5. Implement emergency action plans and standard operating procedures for protective actions.
  6. Ensure protective actions comply with industry standards and laws.
  7. Maintain records, reports, and documentation of protective actions and protectee interactions.
  8. Document critical incidents and submit reports timely.
  9. Prepare and verify statistical reports for accuracy.
  10. Maintain physical fitness to perform duties.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent, no felony convictions, at least 21 years old (or 18 with college credits or military service), three years law enforcement/military/executive protection experience, and an active Texas Peace Officer License or ability to obtain within a year.

Licenses and Certifications: US citizenship, active US passport, valid Texas driver's license, pass criminal background, drug screening, and weapons qualification, plus completion of specified NIMS courses within a year.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Law enforcement or executive protection experience.
  • Knowledge of laws, policies, and procedures related to law enforcement and protection.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, document preparation, and defensive tactics.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and physical skills.

Work Environment & Other Information

Includes standing, handling, vision, and physical activity, with outdoor exposure and potential danger. Must operate vehicles, firearms, and communication equipment safely. Work hours include some holidays, nights, and weekends. Drug and background checks are required.
