This role is responsible for supporting administrative and clerical functions within the Finance Department, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing, and maintaining financial records. HACA has been a leader in affordable housing in the City of Austin for more than 85 years. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, local government entities, and numerous non-profit agencies, HACA provides access to safe, stable housing to over 20,000 individuals. What you will do in this position:Payroll Processing:Processes payroll, including auditing and summarizing timesheets and leave slips.Enters and processes payroll data in the system.Prepares and routes payroll checks and related tax returns.Financial Reporting & Compliance:Prepares payroll-related tax returns and check requests.Reconciles and transmits payroll taxes and employee benefit payments monthly.Generates and distributes W-2s, 1099s, and other financial reports.Data Management & Record Keeping:Maintains and updates employee records, including salary, benefits, direct deposit, and tax information.Compiles and verifies payroll data for accuracy.Assists in generating reports related to payroll and Assisted Housing payments.Assisted Housing Payments:Prepares and prints monthly checks for Assisted Housing landlords and tenants.System Maintenance & User Support:Performs routine system monitoring, backups, and minor equipment maintenance.Assists users with payroll system troubleshooting and training as needed.General Accounting Support:Assists with reconciliations, general ledger entries, and grant reporting.Prepares quarterly reports and utility bill payment spreadsheets.Supports financial closeout activities.Other Duties:Responds to payroll-related inquiries.Performs other assigned tasks as directed by the supervisor.More about this position:Qualified candidates must possess:Associate's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus one year of experience; ORHigh school diploma/GED with two to three years of payroll or accounting experience; ORAn equivalent combination of education and experience.Strong knowledge of accounting principles and payroll processing.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access).Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.Preferred candidate should possess:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Management, or a related field.Four to five years of payroll or accounting experience.Ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Experience with financial software and payroll systems.Benefits:Paid sick leave, annual leave, birthday leave & federal holidays 100% of employee health insurance premiums paid by the agencySupplemental health, dental, vision, and life insurance options for employees and familyEmployee Assistance ProgramHybrid work schedule availableFor a more detailed description of our compensation/benefits offered, go to the following website: APPLICATIONS FOR EMPLOYMENT: Application for the open posted position must be submitted via online at the following website: However, we will accept applications at the Housing Authority of the City of Austin, 1124 S.
