At Hanson Professional Services, Inc., we are committed to transforming communities through innovative engineering solutions. We are seeking a candidate to fill a part-time (with the possibility of advancing to full-time) Senior Instrumentation Engineer opening.

Position Summary
This position will support Hanson's growing practice in logistic infrastructure for industrial plants and terminals. It will be located within the Industry Business Unit, which focuses on solving complex industrial plant logistics and material handling challenges.
The Senior Instrumentation Engineer will lead instrumentation and control systems design on complex industrial projects. This role requires a licensed PE with a strong understanding of both instrumentation and electrical design deliverables. Familiarity with rail and truck loading & unloading racks and product custody transfer criteria is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the instrumentation scope of work from concept through construction for industrial and oil & gas projects.
  2. Develop and review key I&C deliverables including instrument specifications, datasheets, control narratives, and drawings.
  3. Provide instrumentation input to P&IDs and coordinate with process and mechanical teams.
  4. Review electrical engineering deliverables such as single line diagrams and panel schedules.
  5. Ensure compliance with standards (ISA, API, NEC, CSA, etc.).
  6. Participate in client meetings, reviews, and model coordination.
  7. Coordinate with vendors and contractors; review submittals and provide construction support.
  8. Support cost estimating, material requisitions, and change orders.
  9. Travel occasionally for site visits and field support in the U.S. and Canada.

Required Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's Degree in Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  2. Active PE license in at least one state, with ability to obtain in others.
  3. 10+ years of relevant experience in industrial or oil & gas instrumentation.
  4. Strong knowledge of field instrumentation, control systems, safety systems, and process integration.
  5. Familiarity with electrical engineering deliverables and cross-disciplinary coordination.
  6. Proficiency with AutoDesk products (AutoCAD Plant 3D, Civil 3D, etc.) and experience with 3D modeling is a plus.
  7. Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  8. Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience with loading/unloading rack design and custody transfer instrumentation.
  2. Ability to mentor junior engineers and interface with clients.

Hourly pay range: $70 - $100/hr
