Position Summary:

The General Foreman - Plastic Fusion is responsible for overseeing ultra-high purity (UHP) thermoplastic piping installations and tool hook-ups in semiconductor cleanroom environments. This includes supervising multiple foremen and crews, ensuring compliance with OSHA, SEMI, and project-specific protocols, and maintaining the highest standards of installation quality across PVDF, PFA, HDPE, and PPH systems using IR, butt, socket, and hot-gas fusion methods.

This role is pivotal in delivering safe, efficient, and first-pass quality installations that directly support semiconductor manufacturing operations. Success requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and proven ability to coordinate with superintendents, QA/QC, and other trades to meet aggressive tool installation schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate multiple foremen and crews (fusion technicians, welders, helpers) across cleanroom bays and tool sets.
  • Develop and maintain daily and weekly work plans aligned with project milestones and tool installation timelines.
  • Conduct pre-task planning (PTP), toolbox talks, and JSAs; ensure readiness before entry into cleanrooms.
  • Enforce semiconductor cleanroom standards, including gowning, contamination control, and chemical handling protocols.
  • Review and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, and OEM tool hook-up drawings; verify alignment with installation scopes.
  • Oversee fusion quality control, ensuring compliance with DVS 2207, ASTM F2620, and OEM specifications.
  • Manage pressure and leak testing (helium, nitrogen, hydro) and validate proper documentation for turnover.
  • Maintain accurate fusion logs, weld maps, and heat number traceability; support turnover package completion.
  • Drive 98%+ first-pass yield rates by coordinating closely with QA/QC and commissioning teams.
  • Report daily progress, manpower forecasts, and look-ahead schedules to project leadership.
  • Represent the Plastic Fusion discipline during cross-trade coordination, audits, and client walk-downs.
  • Mentor and train crews on best practices, safe work, and cleanroom installation techniques.
Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of piping installation experience in semiconductor or high-tech industries (cleanroom/UHP required).
  • 3-5+ years of supervisory experience (Foreman, General Foreman, or Superintendent).
  • Strong technical expertise in UHP thermoplastics (PVDF, PFA, HDPE, PPH) and fusion methods (IR, butt, socket, hot-gas).
  • Knowledge of SEMI standards (S2, S8, F15, F81), OSHA 29 CFR 1926, and cleanroom protocols.
  • Ability to read/redline 2D/3D piping models (Navisworks, AutoCAD Plant 3D) and P&IDs.
  • DVS 2207 or OEM fusion certification preferred.
  • NCCER Pipefitter or equivalent journeyman credential preferred.
  • Experience with digital fusion loggers and barcode traceability systems is a plus.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross-trade coordination skills.
  • Ability to pass background checks, drug testing, and cleanroom gowning protocols.
Working Conditions:
  • Work performed in semiconductor cleanrooms and active construction sites.
  • Physical activities include climbing, standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Frequent site inspections with exposure to noise, temperature fluctuations, and construction hazards.
  • Must be able to wear cleanroom PPE (bunny suit, respirator) and chemical suits as required during decontamination or flush operations.
  • Flexibility to work off-shifts, weekends, or emergency call-outs to support critical tool start-up milestones.
