Electric Apprentice Meterman

An Electric Apprentice Meterman will train for an Electric Meterman Journeyman position through the apprentice program, consisting of on-the-job training and related instructional technical training. An Electric Meterman Journeyman works independently on a day-to-day basis under the supervision of the Electric Meterman Foreman.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Investigating consumers' complaints concerning voltage irregularities.
  • Overseeing the materials, equipment, vehicles, and tools that technicians use on electric metering systems.
  • Installing and removing electrical meters and associated equipment.
  • Use and maintain a laptop computer and/or tablets for use in programming and maintenance of meters, completing daily work orders, time reporting, load validation forms, and other electronic forms as required.
  • Connects and uses the test board and understands the use of testing instruments.
  • Programs and tests new meters.
  • Performs general and miscellaneous labor in and out of the meter shop.
  • Installs and removes AMI field devices.
  • May perform turn-ons and turn-offs on self-contained three-phase accounts.
  • Investigate metering installations for current diversion and/or theft; evaluates evidence and recommends action.
  • Training personnel in equal or lower classifications.
  • Prepares various reports and records, including mileage, meter testing, and expense accounts.
  • Assists in resolving unplanned power outages; participates in restoring power services in a safe and timely manner; and communicates with utility customers regarding electrical complaints, planned outages and potential electric hazards during power outages.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid driver's license.
  • Vocational /Associates electrical/instrumentation degree or equivalent experience in related work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Preferred candidate will have equivalent to/or a combination of experience listed that provides for the required knowledge, skills, and leadership, and must demonstrate abilities for continued training/education.

Hiring range: $21.75 - $43.05 per hour, depending on qualifications.
