The Painter is responsible for painting residential or commercial properties in a timely manner. Their duties include meeting with supervisors to discuss color schemes and surfaces to be painted, keeping an inventory of supplies like paint brushes, rollers, tarps, or ladders and working with a team to oversee the completion of painting jobs.

Essential Job Functions

  • Preparing surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, and filling holes
  • Selecting and mixing paints to achieve desired colours
  • Applying paint, varnish, or other finishes to various surfaces
  • Using brushes, rollers, and sprayers to apply coatings
  • Covering floors and furniture to protect from paint splatters
  • Following safety procedures and wearing protective equipment
  • Estimating time and material requirements for jobs
  • Cleaning up work areas and equipment after completing tasks
  • Required skills often include attention to detail, physical stamina, colour vision, and time management. Experience with different painting techniques and knowledge of various paint types are also valuable.
Required Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic math skills are essential
  • 2+ years of experience working in the construction industry
