SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to facilitate custodial requests and proactively respond to the needs of the organization related to building, cleaning, maintenance, or other areas directed by the Facilities Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Act with integrity and be a role model for ethical behavior, is consistent and fair when dealing with others. Uphold our Core Values.
  2. Keep up the custodial work at all the BiG buildings. Some of this work must be done when BiG is closed including Sunday late afternoon and evening.
  3. Clean buildings after special events.
  4. Assist in moving furniture, products, or other items between buildings, within buildings, or off-campus.
  5. Assist in maintaining grounds as needed, possibly including weeding or mowing.
  6. Purchasing necessary tools, supplies, or equipment from various retail stores in the area.
  7. Assist with touch up painting in buildings
  8. Deep cleaning of certain areas of BiG including kitchens, windows, etc.
  9. Other duties as assigned
  1. QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   1. Education and Experience - 2+ years of experience working as a maintenance or custodian as a handyman/woman.
  2. Skills and Abilities -. Proficient in the use of all custodial cleaning and basic facility work tools. Time management and organization skills to accurately keep track of pending/current/complete work orders.
  3. Language Skills - Candidates must have good communication skills. Needs to have the ability to read maintenance requests and act on that information.
  4. Mathematical Skills - Basic addition, subtraction, and multiplication for use in measuring.
  5. Reasoning Ability - Candidates should have the ability to solve practical problems and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize duties.
  6. Interpersonal skills - Must have above-average interpersonal skills and be able to communicate with all staff members, volunteers, and represent Big's standard of excellence.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand or be on their feet for long periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and arms to lift. Climbing a step ladder, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling is required. Ability to lift or move up to 50 pounds; stand, walk, and sit; kneel, stoop, and crouch; talk and hear. The employee is required to reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

  1. WORK ENVIRONMENT - The work environment can be characterized as fluctuating depending on the tasks at hand. There will be times when you will be working indoors in a climate-controlled environment and other times which will involve working in inclement weather conditions, including cold and extreme heat and humidity. Hours of work may include a schedule of weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
