JOB SUMMARY

Convenience store clerks greet customers, scan the bar code or enter the priceof merchandise into a cash register, total the sale and accept payment for thegoods. They assist customers in finding items as needed. Clerks may also be responsiblefor stocking the shelves with new inventory, keeping an eye out for potentialshoplifters and helping to quickly clean up spills or other messes that occur in the store. TheConvenience store clerk's main responsibility is to checkout customers'purchases accurately and efficiently while providing a positive customerservice experience for the customer.

JOB DUTIES

  • Greet customers and provide customer service.
  • Turn gasoline pumps on or off, once customers have paid.
  • Scan items for purchase at registers.
  • Works a cash register and makes correct change for customers.
  • Perform general cleaning duties around the store or refill food and drinkappliances such as coffeemakers.
  • Keeps work area free from safety hazards and report any hazards found to management.
  • Stocking and merchandising duties such as filling shelves, building displays orputting up signs.
  • Perform security functions such as watching for possible shoplifting orreporting drivers who pump gas and leave without paying.
  • Verify the age of the customer and refuse to sell the goods if they areunderage, when selling lottery, alcohol or tobacco products.
  • Maintains knowledge of all policies and procedures for proper checkout ofcustomers.
  • Discreetly notifies managers of items needing attention.
  • Deals with multiple customers professionally.

SECONDARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.
  • Present favorable impression in dress, personal hygiene and business attitude.
  • Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns or property defacement.
  • Other duties assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrate basic math skills to give change or count down till.
  • Strong interpersonal/customer service skills.
