Role Overview

The Test Engineering Technician is a hands-on, mid to senior-level role responsible for executing system-level testing in a high-volume manufacturing environment. This position plays a critical role in ensuring product quality and production efficiency through system bring-up, test execution, troubleshooting, and hardware repair.

Working at the intersection of Production, Test Engineering, and Operations, this role ensures smooth test flow, rapid issue identification, and effective escalation. This is an execution-focused role with strong emphasis on troubleshooting and operational stability rather than test design.

  • Execute predefined test scripts and validation procedures
  • Perform BIOS and firmware updates and verify system functionality

Failure Analysis & Repair

  • Analyze system error codes, logs, and test results
  • Perform L1/L2 troubleshooting using standard diagnostic methods (swap, isolate, verify)
  • Execute hardware repairs and FRU-level component replacements
  • Validate system functionality after repair

Issue Management & Escalation

  • Identify issues impacting test yield, throughput, or quality
  • Escalate complex technical issues to engineering teams as needed
  • Communicate risks, blockers, and status updates to team leads and cross-functional partners

Operational Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Support production goals related to quality, throughput, and delivery
  • Participate in 5S and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide feedback on recurring failures and process improvements

Required Qualifications

  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience with system hardware
  • Familiarity with BIOS/firmware updates and system configuration
  • Basic knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems
  • Ability to interpret logs, error codes, and test results
  • Understanding of manufacturing test processes and workflows

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with server or data center hardware
  • Basic networking knowledge (IP configuration, connectivity testing)
  • Familiarity with automated test stations or manufacturing environments
  • Experience in high-volume production settings
  • CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification

Education & Experience

  • Associate degree in IT, Electronics, or related field (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • 2–4 years of experience in hardware support, manufacturing test, or technical operations
  • Prior experience in a production or manufacturing environment preferred

What Success Looks Like (First 6 Months)

  • Independently performs system setup and test execution
  • Efficiently troubleshoots and isolates hardware issues
  • Meets production targets for quality and throughput
  • Escalates issues effectively and communicates clearly
  • Contributes to reduction of repeat failures through accurate diagnostics
  • Actively supports 5S and continuous improvement efforts
