Coordinate the daily operations of the district's student transportation program, including dispatching, route management, staffing coverage, field trip transportation, and operational communications. Clear and valid Texas commercial driver's license with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements Must be 18 years of age
Ability to effectively use transportation routing, scheduling, GPS, communication, and other technology systems Ability to organize and coordinate multiple transportation activities and respond effectively to changing operational needs Ability to analyze routes, schedules, and transportation information to identify and resolve operational issues Ability to use maps and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) to follow routes and locate addresses Ability to read and understand documents including policies and procedures manuals Ability to receive and give written and verbal instructions Ability to pass U.S. Department of Transportation alcohol and drug tests and annual DOT physical exam Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Three years of experience in student transportation or related operations preferred.
Daily Operations, Dispatch, and Routing Coordinate daily transportation operations, including the dispatch of drivers, monitors, vehicles, and other transportation resources to ensure appropriate route and service coverage. Monitor transportation communications and respond to drivers, campuses, and department staff regarding delays, route issues, emergencies, and other operational needs. Receive and track driver and bus monitor absences and coordinate substitute or alternate coverage for morning, afternoon, field trip, and other transportation assignments. Prepare, maintain, and update student transportation routes, stops, schedules, and route information using district routing and transportation systems. Make routine route and scheduling adjustments based on student needs, enrollment changes, staffing, service conditions, and operational efficiency; elevate significant service changes or concerns to the Transportation Coordinator. Respond to transportation incidents and requests for assistance and coordinate appropriate operational support, including replacement vehicles, emergency services, towing, or other resources as needed. Coordinate field trip, extracurricular, and special-program transportation, including processing requests, scheduling vehicles and drivers, maintaining trip schedules and documentation, and communicating transportation arrangements to appropriate staff. Communicate routine route changes, delays, service disruptions, and other transportation updates to campuses, staff, and families in accordance with department procedures.
Records, Reports, and Documentation Prepare and maintain transportation reports, forms, schedules, correspondence, and other operational documentation as required. Support the preparation of required state, TEA, and district transportation reports by compiling and maintaining accurate route, operational service, collision, and other transportation data and documentation. Compile, maintain, and file accurate transportation records, including route documentation, trip records, incident reports, student transportation records, and other required operational records. Maintain required transportation personnel and compliance documentation, including driver qualification, certification, training, and safety records, as assigned; notify the Transportation Coordinator of missing, incomplete, or expiring requirements. Compile and verify transportation employee timekeeping and payroll documentation for review and approval by the Transportation Coordinator.
Administrative and Purchasing Support Maintain routine transportation purchasing and expenditure records and provide documentation to support departmental budget monitoring. Prepare purchase orders, payment authorizations, and other routine purchasing documentation as directed and in accordance with district procedures.
Other Operate a school bus as needed to support transportation operations. Support the onboarding of transportation employees by coordinating required records, schedules, training documentation, and other administrative requirements. Maintain transportation staff schedules and calendars necessary to support daily operations, training, field trips, and department activities. Maintain confidentiality of student, personnel, and other sensitive information in accordance with district requirements. Identify recurring operational, routing, staffing, or service issues and communicate trends and recommended improvements to the Transportation Coordinator. Perform other duties as assigned.
